DREAMZ HOME

Centre For Girls And Boys

Started in the year 2004, Dreamz Home is a nurturing space where children receive care, education, and support to grow into empowered individuals. Our Centers fosters a safe environment for holistic development, helping children overcome their challenges and achieve their aspirations.

FORMATION OF DREAMZ HOME

Mumbai, a bustling metropolis, has long grappled with the grim reality of child beggars seen at prominent places and traffic signals, their small, innocent hands stretched out for alms instead of holding pencils or books. These children, often forced by families or syndicates, face a bleak future, devoid of education and basic rights.

Recognizing this pervasive issue, Samajik Vikas Kendra conducted an in-depth research survey on the plight of child beggars in Mumbai. The findings of this survey were both shocking and eye-opening, culminating in the publication of a landmark article titled “Bikharis Bonanza” in the Mid-Day newspaper on July 1, 2004. This headline caught the attention of the public, raising awareness and sparking debates. Simultaneously, the issue was highlighted in all leading newspapers and media outlets across the country, amplifying its significance.

Objectives of DREAMZ Home

The mission behind Dreamz Home was ambitious yet compassionate, seeking to:

Isolate child beggars from families that coerced them into begging on the streets.

Provide accommodation and care for destitute children facing crises.

Support children of widows struggling to provide daily meals and education for
their offspring.

Extend care to orphaned and semi-orphaned children, ensuring they are not left vulnerable on the streets.

A New Beginning for Children

Dreamz Home aimed to give these children what they deserved—a chance to live like other normal children. By providing a nurturing environment, the home ensured:

• Access to quality education through enrollment in formal BMC-run schools, overcoming challenges like the lack of birth certificates or other documentation.
• Nutritious meals, proper clothing, and safe accommodation.
• Lessons in hygiene, social values, and a sense of belonging.
• A platform to experience the simple joys of childhood, including play and recreation.

In its first year of operation, Dreamz Home achieved a significant milestone by enrolling 22 child beggars into formal schools, a unique accomplishment given the bureaucratic and societal hurdles. This success story was widely recognized and featured in another Mid-Day article in 2004, further solidifying Dreamz Home as a model for child rehabilitation and care.

Legacy of DREAMZ Home

Dreamz Home continues to be a beacon of hope for destitute children, breaking the cycle of begging and poverty. Through its unwavering commitment, the initiative has transformed lives, giving countless children the opportunity to dream, learn, and grow in
a loving and supportive environment.

This story of resilience and compassion underscores the power of collective action and the impact of raising awareness, turning a newspaper headline into a life-changing mission.
